What is pederinella dermatitis
Paederus rove belongs to the insect steel, Coleoptera, among which the poisonous rove beetle is a small black ant-shaped beetle with a body length of 0.6-0.8 cm.
It usually lives in the grass and trees in the fields, and likes to fly around lights at night and bite people and animals.
Paederus rove does not have poison glands, but there is a toxin in the insect body. When the insect stays on the human skin, it does not cause dermatitis, but only when it is broken or crushed.
A strong acidic venom (pH1-2) contained in the insect body contacts the skin, causing dermatitis reaction within a few hours. The severity of the reaction is related to the amount of contact with the venom.
How to treat pederinella dermatitis
It should be washed immediately with soapy water or 10% ammonia water. Calamine lotion can be applied to the red and swollen areas.
Antihistamines should be taken orally, and antibiotics should be used if there is a secondary infection.
